Balmain a/w 2011 fashion show.

Paris, 3. March 2011

The Balmain show was held at Grand Hôtel on Wednesday 3. March at 15:00. Outside was a big crowd of photographers and fashionistas checking out who were going to the show and what they were wearing. Balmain obviously attracts a crowd of stylish people and the photographers kept busy taking pictures of people around the hotel in between getting the important shot of Kanye West and other known guests arriving to the show.
Afterwards we were able to get pictures of most of the biggest fashion editors except Anna Wintour who used a back entrance to avoid the crowd. The models were quick to go after the show and among others we saw the successful Danish model Freja Beha leave the venue even more beautiful than she looks on pictures. The talk after the show was that Balmain´s creative director, Christophe Decarnin failed to show up due to doctor's orders to rest after being treated for an unconfirmed illness. All the way from the Grand Hôtel to the nearest metro was a sea of photographers snatching some inspiring street style pictures of people that either attended the show, or like us only got to stand outside and dream of what was happening inside the glamorous Grand Hôtel which quite frankly was a show in itself.

Rick Owens a/w 2011 fashion show.

The Rick Owens show took place on Wednesday afternoon in Palais de Tokyo. It was scheduled to start at 17:00 but at that point the models were still running around outside with bleaching product on their eyebrows and paper in the hair to keep the do in place. The beautiful Chinese model, Ming Xi, was interesting to see with her big eyes looking even bigger without the eyebrows showing. There was notion that a few people without invitation could get in so we waited patiently in line in hope of seeing the show and in the meantime watched people enter with their invitations. The most memorable guest is without doubt Anna Dello Russo in her bronze suit looking good as ever although there was no fruit hat on her head this time.

After all the waiting to get in it was announced that there was no room left inside and almost at the same moment the music started inside. We used the break to take some pictures of interesting people and sit down for only a minute as it seemed but when I passed a smiling Kate Lanphear, style director of US Elle, on the way to the restroom it was obvious how quickly a fashion show is over. On the way out of Palais de Tokyo the photographers were running after people asking to take their pictures or foregoing asking and just clicking away as we tiptoed in our high heels feeling like true fashionistas running through the clowd of papparazzis!

LE MARAIS - gay - jewesh and fashion!

The Marais is one of Paris' oldest quarters,

The quarter offers wide, sweeping boulevards and grey, classical-inspired apartments, the flavor of a Marais is dramatic residences, artisan's boutiques, galleries, lavish squares, and fascinating history, furthermore Marais is one of the only areas that preserves the narrow streets and architectural styles of Medieval and Renaissance-are Paris.

Marais is a uttermost charming and beautiful district and woth reserving at leats a half-day of exploration for.

The Marais provide a wide range of shopping opportinities. The faces are severel :

the touristy Place des Vosges, the festive rue Vieille du Temple, the fashionable rue des Francs-Bourgeois… between the Seine and rue de Rivoli, Saint-Paul is an oasis of tranquility.

The shops are many, you will find all sorts of small design boutiqes, vintage stores, jewelry stores and known design stores. Furthermore you can also find interior stores and severel numbers of galleries

When you walk the streets af the Marais, you will among the estetic beauty, discover plenty spots of streetart.

Gareth Pugh a/w 2011 fashion show.

At 5:30 Tuesday 2. March we arrived at Les Beaux-Arts de Paris where there already was a crowd waiting to get in to the Gareth Pugh a/w 2011 show. To our surprise there was a line for people without invitations to get in and two of us were lucky to be among the 20 people who got in while the others were busy taking pictures of the amazing people arriving for the show. Among the invitees were Daphne Guinness, Viktor & Rolf, Rick Owens, Susie Lau of Style Bubble and Kate Lanphear to name only a few.
The show started with an electronic soundtrack and a show of lights before the futuristic looking models starting coming down the runway, both men and women. At first they were all wearing black and quite a bit of leather but then cobalt blue was included. A black sheath with a cobalt blue cape attached was one of the show's strongest pieces. Then it was time for gold and Karlie Kloss looked amazing in a gold capelet, dress and leggings.
After the finale the guests were quick to stand up and go, most notably Daphne Guinness who went out in the back to avoid the blitz of photographers. All that was left were the invitations and information from the designer lying all around the runway. Amazingly the models were also quick to get the elaborate eye makeup off and run out into the night, almost at the same time as the guests, looking just as stunning with their faces clean of all makeup.

Ann Demeulemeester (born 1959, Waregem, Belgium) is a fashion designer whose eponymous label 'Ann Demeulemeester' is mainly showcased at the annual Paris Fashion Week. She has had her own label since 1987.
Her high style fashion is avant-garde, black and edgy – and also, she is one of the critics’ favorite.

The show was held at Couvent de Cordeliers, Rue de l’École de Médécine in the 6th arrondissement on the second day of Paris Fashion Week.

There was fashion bloggers, editors, models, buyers, press people and hang-arounds at the show. Among the more interesting people attending the show were Diane Pernet, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Taylor Tomasi Hill, Grace Coddington.

Standing in front of Galerie Sud-Est at 11 AM, waiting for something to happen. Exciting and cold.
The only thing we know is that there will arrive lots of fashionistas from all around the world to experience Damir Doma’s univers.
Two fashionable guys are standing in front of the Galerie Sud-Est, looking very Damir Doma, they are all dressed in black.
Damir Doma style is soft, melancholy, inspired by identity’s multiple expressions. With these words the contemporary masculine man.
Damir Doma grew up in Germany, and studied fashion in München and Berlin. He graduated in 2004 with a price for the best collection.
After he graduated he worked for different designers.
In 2006 Damir Doma started working at his own collection, and in 2007 he made his debut during the Paris Fashion Week, where his first Mens collection was presented.

In the year 2009 he’s first collection for Woman and men called SILENT was introduced, this was the first collection with Womans clothings, Basic garments and accessories.
Damir Doma is now worldwide and known by lots of fashionistas.
All the fashionistas are now arriving, very colorful and fashionably late, there are lots of fashion photographers, who are running towards all the invited people, to take pictures, to their blogs, and magazines.
Some of the photographers are for example: Italian Vogue, French Vogue, ELLE mag and so on. They are all taking pictures for their website, to show the street style of Paris Fashion Week.
Now the show starts, all the “very” important people are inside, and all the uninvited people are standing outside, hoping to get in. But none of the uninvited people gets in and ten minutes everybody comes out again. They look happy and hopeful - seems as if it’s been a fantastic show.

When it comes to street style, many believe that each and every city has their own special style. Our assignment was to check out the streets of Paris and see if there was anything that could describe the Parisian look in general.
There are a lot of vintage shops in Paris and it seems like this influences the street style a lot. Buying vintage and green thinking has in it self become fashionable all over the world, so even though maybe 50% of the people we talked to were tourists, we can still say that it applies to the Parisian fashionistas. They combine old clothing with new shiny things like a Chanel bag or a pair of Chloé sunglasses, so that the outfit gets an interesting look. We have seen mixing in materials, patterns, texture and colour, and together it creates an interesting expression with exciting details.
The interesting details are also reflected in the architecture, or maybe it´s the other way around. The whole city has it´s own dynamics, where there in a classy area suddenly can pop out a blue door or some street art, without destroying the overall impression of a beautiful street. Just like in the outfits.

Street report - Rue St. Honoré.

Rue St. Honoré is one of the largest shoppings treets in Paris and is home to many of the worlds biggest fashion brands with a fashionable and stylish atmosphere surrounding it. Besides the Rue St. Rue St. Honoré is one of the largest shoppingstreets in Paris.

Our main destination in the area was “Collette” - a hip and stylish fashion store with clothes from some af the worlds biggest fashion brands and hottest designers of the moment (Alexander Wang, Lanvin, Marc Jacobs, Balmain, Gareth Pugh, Valentino and Comme des Garcons to name a few). There is also a big selection of interesting things other than clothes that are all more or less related to fashion, such as magazines, dvd´s, vintage cameras, bunny figures and even a skateboard with a picture of Karl Lagerfeld. Right now the shop windows have an amazing pop of neon through Mary Katrantzou´s latest collection on show.

Collette is a three storey shop, the gift shop is on the entrance level but on the first floor are the mannequins displaying all the fabulous clothes on offer . This floor almost feels like a museum since each item on sale has their space. This means that the selection was not very big but obviously very well thought out. In the basement is a resturant which judging from the long line for a table must be very popular although rumour says the main attraction downstairs was the amazing toilet that a remote control was needed to be able to make the most of!

The women´s department is experimental compared to the mens department that was very small and slightly boring. In fact the only thing that stood out to us that were the very short shorts. The trends right now in Collette are: Black, white, neon colours, blue, striped, granny lace and flower prints, pleated skirts, blazers and cropped trousers.

Weleft Collette very inspired with a feeling of coolness and walked furter on the street to discover all the amazing designer shops such as: Jimmi Choo, Gucci, Galliano, Miu Miu, Chanel, YSL, Hermésand Lanvin. A true adventureland for the fashion clad that we are.

French modesty and Technicolor

Our little student group enters a slightly dark and modest room located in a basement in Paris. Here, we are welcomed by a woman who is the director of a small company which helps young and upcoming French designers getting into the French fashion industry by giving them a showroom and helping them get the right PR suited for them.
The person to be interviewed is Renaud, a designer whose specialty is patterns and mixing lots of colors.
In order to understand his style of clothing we asked Renaud where he places himself in the French fashion scene.
According to Renaud a lot of the French fashion creators have the same style and are very conservative. They are not taking risks and they never make something completely different - this is one of the main reasons why Renaud makes the clothing he does. This also means that Renaud has to turn towards Asia and especially Japan, where Renaud’s pieces are accepted and loved. He adds that a great deal of the buyers also are Asians, and therefore this is where his market lies.
Renaud’s super hero look-a-like clothing filled with colors is hopefully going to bring him into the French fashion scene and as he wishes; bring Paris back as number one on the global fashion scene. He hopes that Paris will become the fashion capital that it once were.
But as said before, Renaud thinks that the conservative France has to make room for the more fun and energetic designers.
Another reason why it is so hard for the upcoming designers to get a brand and a respected name in this industry is because all the big brands overrules the small ones, but also the high rent makes is almost impossible for the little brands to survive. Therefore Renaud often needs to have a part-time job in H&M next to his fashion career in order to pay the rent and the fabrics.
As we say goodbye to Renaud and leaves the little basement and though realities and returns to the streets of beautiful and romantic Paris, we realize how hard it is for young upcoming designers of France to make a name for themselves and that it takes a lot of work and probably sacrifices. But will Paris ever change and do we really want it? One thing was definitely sure; Renaud’s passion and positive mind was an inspiration to us all.

Dior was the most hyped show during the paris fashionweek.Of course due to the scandal about john galliano's exit from the house.Speculations was all over - was he framed ? or just stupid?

One thing is for sure dior did not do a lot to keep their leading designer!

The anticipated Christian Dior show sans John Galliano was scheduled to take place on Friday 4. March at 14:30 in Musée Rodin. We arrived early but there were already many people outside the venue taking photos and interviewing people about Galliano´s recent scandal. There was a lot to see stylewise outside Musée Rodin, an elaborate mix of high fashion and current trends but the most attention went to a drag queen wearing extremely high shoes and a sign saying „The Kind is Gone“.
After the show people walked quietly out as if it was a wake while journalists threw questions out in the air without getting any answers until Natalia Vodianova was willing to discuss the incident with Galliano but not the Dior show itself. The atmosphere among the crowd outside the show was quiet and there was an occasional tear to be seen on the models afterwards giving us a reason to believe it was an emotional show with a sincere apology from John Galliano.

At tilbringe 3 måneder i den fantastiske by London er en ting, en anden er at tilbringe 3 måneder i et studie, der emmer af kreativitet, hygge, dejlige mennesker, stress og kaos tilsat svingende Abba-musik.
Jeg har været i praktik hos Peter Jensen – manden med de mange specielle muser og karakteristiske briller.

Arbejdsmæssigt var mine opgaver ikke altid i det mest spændende men tit og ofte bestod det af noget så almindeligt som pakning, klipning, syning og i at løbe ærinder. Det var absolut hårdt, men den indsigt jeg fik i, hvor meget arbejde der faktisk skal til for at holde hjulene kørende, var for mig guld værd. Og jo mere man viste, man var i stand til, desto mere spændende opgaver fik man stillet.
Jeg har tit hørt, at folk hopper af ’praktik-vognen’, når de finder ud af, at det er ulønnet. Den tanke har også strejfede mig både før, men også under, når jeg for 5. dag i trak sad og syede knapper på cardigans eller pakkede tøj i poser. Men efter jeg landede i København igen, kan jeg nu se, hvad jeg fik, som man kan købe sig til – nemlig netværk. Og hvor vigtigt er netværk ikke, når man engang skal leve af denne uddannelse. Den er alt afgørende.
Jeg vil slå et slag for praktikken, for hvis der er noget, man virkelig lærer, er det, at en deadline er til for at blive overholdt, at hårdt arbejde er den eneste vej frem, at man ikke kommer nogen vej med egoisme og følsomhed, og at Abba-musik er skide godt at arbejde til.

What do you do?
I work for family business, trading exporting/importing business.
What inspires you?
Abstract oil painting inspires me. Watching people on the street inspires me. Street snapshots inspire me. Modern Architecture inspires me. The way I style my clothings inspires myself.
What was your big break?
I would say my big break was the time I studied in Boston. I was 20yo and I finally started to get to know who I really am. And I realized being in a rather conservative city, I really didn't give a damn about what other people think of me, and ever since then, I just wear whatever I want.
What is most essential to what you do?
The most essential thing to what I do would be mind manipulating. I work with 2 opposite kinds of cultures. As the boss, I need to make a great balance for my employees. Since they are from 2 different countries, 2 different culture backgrounds, so I constantly have to switch my mind back and forth when I communicate with them.
What might people be surprised to learn about your job?
Well, when they first look at me, they will never think I would be in the trading business with fruit products, I think this is the biggest suprise already haha
What are the dangers of your job?
The danger of my job would be dealing with serious corruptions from the customs, ports, farms, etc. I have to constantly check the business bank accounts.
Best and worse career point:
Best career point: To get the deal done with the Middle East countries.
Worst career point: Working with my dad may be haha

Min hovedinspiration kommer fra en fotoserie, som hedder “Spooky little girl like you” af den svenske fotograf Denise Grünstein. Serien er et udtryk for, hvordan samfundet stadig har svært ved at acceptere, det der er anderledes. En skæv verden der helst vil være lige.

Kollektionen har også inspiration fra figurene i den italienske maskekomedie “Commedia dell’arte” fra 1500-tallet. Stykket har et blandet udtryk med klassiske cirkusformer og -farver, samt et mørkere karaktertræk. Dette er typisk fra den tids kunstarter, der bar et udtryk for depression og håb.

Som en ekstra visuel reference til 1500-tallet har jeg brugt gamle nøgler, som med deres former og funktion, minder en om den tids håndværk og teknologi. Mit håndværksmæssige udgangspunkt har været dekonstruktion af klassiske skrædder-jakker og -skjorter.

En moderne form for skrædderi med masser af lag på lag, hvor sjove størrelsesforhold er med til at skabe min moderne stil. Klassisk tekstildesign med selvironi og humor.
